A pair of "smart" shoes, capable of guiding people with vision problems, designed two members of the Media Labs, the renowned American University of MIT.
The designers, Crispian Lawrence and Anirudh Sharma, have created a pair of shoes in which the user declares via voice command the address that he wishes to visit.
Then, through the corresponding application for "smart" mobile phones, GPS takes action. The Global Positioning System traces a path and alerts the user to the turn and where to continue straight through vibrations on the left or right leg.
"Smart" shoes do not have cameras so the user should be particularly careful about possible external hazards (obstacles, cars, etc.) during the journey.
From Friday March 7, Lechal will be available to the public for preorder. The price will range from 30 to 37 euros for people with visual impairments. For the rest, the acquisition cost will reach 70 euros.
