The Linux Mint development team has just made them publicly available pictures Linux Mint 18 beta ISO. So from today you can download the "flavor" you are interested in (Cinnamon and MATE) and try the new Mint 18 "Sarah" on your computer.

Linux Mint 18 is based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and has the following software and Kernel packaged:

A new media player based on the totem, called "Videos" and exists in the application menu. You can run it with the xplayer command.
New text editor based on pluma (MAT's default editor), xed.
New image viewer based on eog. It's called xviewer.
An atril-based document reader, called xreader.
In addition to the new and updated applications, Mint 18 comes with new icons and a new GTK theme called Mint-Y. It is not enabled by default. It can be activated by the Control Center - Issues. Note that in addition to the new themes, version 18 also brings new wallpapers.
