Lockbox: Mozilla developers have begun developing a new project to improve the feature that allows embedded password management in Firefox.
So the Mozilla Foundation released a new one extension, initially for employees. From today it is also available for users who can install it from the following links:
The project called Lockbox renews the old Firefox password management utility with a new user interface (UI).
It also has a new button in the Firefox UI, in case users want to add some shortcut in their browser's main menu to open Lockbox without looking for it in their browser options.
Lockbox also supports blocking the application with a master password, helping users keep their passwords secure from unauthorized access by co-workers, family members, or others.
Although Lockbox is at a very early stage of development at the moment, the Mozilla Foundation will probably transfer it to Test Pilot for more user testing before deciding whether to move it to the fixed channel for further development.
The Firefox Test Pilot is an add-on for Firefox that allows users to install, test and support experimental capabilities that can be added to Firefox at some point in the future.
Currently, Mozilla developers report that Lockbox has only been tested on Firefox 57 (and above) and that the installation in Firefox 56 or earlier it may not work at all.
Also, there is currently no way resets of Lockbox's master password, so beware of the brave who are thinking of trying the new project.
