An interesting Facebook account sweepstakes scam is circulating at the moment, trying to trick them users to hand over information and money. Fraudsters are taking advantage of Facebook's recent 10-year anniversary to make everything seem more real.
The e-mail scam found by Kaspersky allegedly comes from the Facebook Rewards Program and mentions something like this:
"With the celebration of the 10 Years of Operation on the Internet and Global Communication we are pleased to announce that your Facebook account has been randomly selected as the beneficiary of $ 1,000,000.00 USD for the year 2013 {Grand Rewards winner} ”
Beneficiaries are required to send their Facebook name and country of residence to an outlook.com email address.
False notifications also contain a link to a Sydney Morning Herald article with Facebook's story. The email is obviously signed by Eduardo Saverin, one of the five co-founders of Facebook.
