Mageia 6 The magic of Linux in a new version

Mageia 6: The of Mageia comes from the Greek word "Magia". It is a reference to the Mandrake wizard, the original name of the Mandriva Linux distribution.

Mandriva Linux was a consumer-oriented distribution, and was the combination of the ever-ever separate distribution of Mandrake, Conectiva and Lycoris. Mandrake was based on Red Hat Linux, with emphasis on graphical utilities for novice users and aesthetically improved graphics.

On September 18 2010, a group of former Mandriva and community supporter employees announced the creation of a Mandriva Linux fork, a new community-based distribution called Mageia. It was the answer to the developments of the past few weeks when most of Mandriva employees were laid off when Edge-IT (a company belonging to Mandriva) was cleared. The group explains that it does not want to "depend on the company's financial instability and strategy."

The Mageia organization will coordinate and manage the distribution: code and hosting of the software and distribution, build system, marketing, promotion communication and events. The , roadmaps, designs, will be shared and discussed within this organization.

The packet manager of Mageia 6

So you came up with the new Mageia 6, a distribution I honestly waited for, since I am a friend in every RH-based distribution and uses a rpm packet manager. (Package Manager is a collection of tools that provides a graphical method of installing, upgrading, and uninstalling applications from the computer.)

Of course, I downloaded the Live ISO and I tried it, in the Gnome version. The results will be shown below:

Live USB immediately after boot, asked me to set time, system language and keyboard. Immediately after, the familiar Gnome screen was opened, along with a toolbox that appears after every first boot in most Linux distributions.

I set up Greek-English without difficulty and opened the first folder. Mageia 6

Surprise first…
Without adding a driver, Live Distribution saw the iPhone I loaded and loaded on USB. Not only did he see it but opened it without any problems.

Mageia 6 has amazing graphics and settings that will satisfy even the "migrants" from Windows.

I thought to see how the system processes go, as though running the operating system from Live USB I did not see any delays and stuffs.

Surprise number two

Although it is a "full" operating system, its use is very "silent".

Virtually as you see above, the CPU does not seem to be pressed, and the use of RAM reaches 43,2% which is normal if you think it runs from Live USB.

As you can see in the picture below, Mageia 6 distribution will not make it more difficult for you to connect to an existing network, or if you want to create your own:

It also gives you the ability to easily manage your drives:

If you are now thinking of trying out the French distribution, simply download the necessary files for your Desktop: Cinnamon, GNOME, IceWM, KDE, MATE, LXDE, LXQt, Openbox, WMaker, Xfce.

Select the desired ISO from the official website:

You can read the notes of the new version from the following link:

Installation will not be a problem, since the installer will guide you through a simple graphical environment:

We should emphasize that distribution, unlike Mandriva, which was a commercial Linux, a commercial entity, is a community-based and nonprofit organization whose goal is to develop a free Linux-based operating system. But here is the problem if you can call it a problem.

Age distribution is just 7 years, and no one knows if it will last. The 6 release released July 16 has been growing for a very long time now, showing a rather slow development cycle.
