Its founder Facebook Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan pledged to donate 99% of their Facebook shares to a company that will invest in socially oriented development and political initiatives.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced that during his lifetime, he will distribute 99 percent of his shares on Facebook to fund social entrepreneurship efforts.
Unlike other billionaires who have promised to spend much of their wealth on charities, Zuckerberg's company is a limited liability company that will invest the sums reported by Zuckerberg.
The notorious letter of Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, does not mention any grants, or the typical form of disbursements from charities, such as those of Bill Gates and his wife Melinda.
The letter clearly states that Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, will focus on political initiatives and investments rather than charitable subsidies.
These investments appear to be targeted at both technology and medical sectors.
The resulting gains will then be used to fund further initiatives and investments.
It should be mentioned here that Zuckerberg has already been criticized for his philanthropic efforts being more aimed at increasing users of Facebook.
Charity Investments (off topic?)
"Philanthropic Investments" or "social entrepreneurship" is a relatively new, and somewhat controversial, form of philanthropy.
These loans are based on the idea that whole communities act as guarantors of the loan. So if a member of the community is not within the limits imposed, the whole community is cut off by further funding. As a result, we have representatives of companies with unlimited power, leading many to suicide.
