Η Martin Aircraft announced that it plans to bring the jetpack to market in the second half of 2016 (PDF). The suit that flies will cost 150.000 dollars approximately.
The device is being developed in the last 35 years, and the Martin says that her jetpack is powered by an engine petrols 200HP V4. The motor powers two ducted fans giving the owner up to 30 minutes of autonomous flight.
The company claims that the jet can carry a payload of 120 pounds, and can catch 45 miles at any time up to 1.000 meters.
The New Zealand company presented its latest prototype on an air show in Paris, using a simulator equipped with an Oculus Rift VR that gave visitors the chance to get to know the product without getting off.
Martin Aircraft had scheduled the release of the "vehicle" in 2014, with price starting at $100.000 but eventually, as we've already reported, it will arrive towards the end of 2016 with a price hike of 50%.
The jet can, of course, look like game for those who can afford it, but Martin managing director Peter Coker says they are aiming to promote it to emergency teams, government agencies, police, fire and EMS.
The company believes that the ability of the jet to fly in hermetically sealed enclosures and areas or roofed houses covered with cables is a practical alternative to what traditional helicopters do.
