Meta on Friday launched its subscription service in the US, which will allow Facebook and Instagram users to pay for verification in the same way Twitter does, a brainchild of Elon Musk.
Following Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion last year, the social network launched its subscription service Blue, which allows users to pay for the blue badge that was previously limited only to verified accounts of politicians, journalists and other public figures.
Meta Verified will give users a similar blue checkmark after verifying their accounts using an ID or a diploma driving.
The subscription will cost $11,99 per month if paid on the web, or $14,99 per month on the desktop system Apple's iOS and the Android owned by Google, Meta said in a statement.
The service, which Meta Reported that it has been testing since February, follows in the footsteps of Snapchat as well as messaging app Telegram and marks the latest attempt by a social networking company to generate revenue outside of its advertising, and collusion.
