In the upcoming sector of "Internet of things"Targets a micro camera developed by the company Rambus, which has the innovative feature that it does not have a lens.
According to an MIT publication Technology Review, αν και οι ψηφιακές κάμερες με φακούς βγάζουν εξαιρετικής ποιότητας φωτογραφίες, είναι δύσκολη η ενσωμάτωση καμερών σε συσκευές μικρότερων διαστάσεων. Κατά τον Πάτρικ Γκιλ, ερευνητή της Rambus, ένας τρόπος να λυθεί αυτό το πρόβλημα είναι η αντικατάσταση του φακού με έναν μικροσκοπικό αισθητήρα που «καταγράφει» το light and relies on a computer to "understand" what the image looks like.
«Στόχος μας είναι να προσθέσουμε “μάτια” σε κάθε ψηφιακή device, no matter how small it is," he says.
The purpose is not to take high-resolution photos, such as a regular camera or a modern smartphone, but to create a very small and easy-to-build sensor that can gather enough information to visualize what's going on in the plan.
Gordon Westerstein, his scientist Camera Culture Group of MIT, is optimistic about this technology: "beyond shrinking pixels, we have not seen much progress in camera sensors for a long time."
According to Gill, Rambus algorithms allow users to "produce" images of different resolutions: the highest achieved so far with the originals is 128 × 128 pixels.
