Microsoft announced today that it is preparing to release a version of its own Microsoft Edge browser for Apple's iOS and operating system Android by Google.
The version for Apple's iOS operating system seems to be available already, but the version for Android is still under development. Both versions are currently only available to Windows Insiders testing the upcoming Windows 10 Fall Update Creators on their computer. However, all users can see it promo page Microsoft Edge for iOS and Android devices.
This isn't the first time Microsoft has brought a web browser to a non-Windows operating system. THE company released Internet Explorer for Mac many years ago, but stopped doing so after a while…
What's the reason?
Microsoft Edge is available only for Windows 10 and the version for Android and iOS means that the new versions of Edge will also be released on operating systems that are not owned by Microsoft, but not in earlier (earlier) versions of Windows.
Is it a step the company has taken to get more people to adopt Windows 10? No one can say for sure but I personally can not find another reason…
Let's say both new browsers (for iOS and Android) are made from scratch and use a different engine than Microsoft Edge in Windows 10.
So we can ask ourselves: How much Edge is the new browser for mobile devices?
Good luck coming to us on Linux, let's see who will use it…
