Microsoft: updates the Linux Kernel via Windows Update

Microsoft has released a new preview version of Windows 10 for those registered to the Windows Insider Fast Ring, this time announcing a series of changes to the Linux Kernel.

With the May 2020 Update, or 2004 version, Windows Subsystem for Linux (which is in version 2 on this feature update) has a Linux kernel developed by Microsoft and today 's preview version comes with a major change.

From this version onwards, the Linux Kernel will be upgraded via Windows Update, just like any other component of Windows.

"We changed the Linux Kernel update model for distributions inside Windows Subsystem for Linux 2. This release includes this change that allows you to remove the Linux kernel from the Windows image and maintain it through Microsoft Update, the same way third-party drivers (such as graphics or touch drivers) are installed and updated ) on your computer today,” says Microsoft.

Today's version of Windows 10 also brings a new feature to the Your Phone: χειριστήρια which enable control from desktop to music and audio running on mobile devices.

The complete changelog, includes two known issues that cause installation delays. Microsoft says it is already investigating the issues and will release an update through Windows Insider to fix them.
