Various rumors circulating want Microsoft to have put in the eye the popular GitHub code repository.
A Publication from Business Insider reports that it knows from sources both from GitHub and Microsoft that the two companies first met to discuss a joint venture marketing and are now thinking of a full merger.
If rumors are true, the deal will move to the amount of 5 billion dollars, a price that a source Reported on CNBC that is too high for Microsoft.
It is not clear whether these talks are part of a serious reflection, if they are inertor whether they continue even today.
GitHub, 2015, was valued for about 2 billion dollars, and a few years ago it sought funding to enter the stock market. Things changed when GitHub CEO Chris Wanstrath resigned last fall. The company has not yet found a replacement, although it looks at executives from Microsoft and Google.
If the rumors turn out to be true and the acquisition is done by Microsoft, both companies will benefit. Owning Git Hub will give Microsoft direct access to hundreds of millions of developers, working on millions of businesses and projects. These developers can more easily use Microsoft cloud services and more products the company's.
Additionally, Git Hub is a goldmine of data and AI resources. THE acquisition of the service could hypothetically give access to Microsoft.
As far as the benefits that GitHub can make, they are much more measurable: 5 billions of dollars is not much.
