Microsoft Mozilla Google and others to develop new video format

Streaming service providers, web browser developers and hardware builders are collaborating on a new project aimed at creating a new video format.

The list of cooperating companies includes όπως την Amazon και τη Netflix, τη Cisco και την Intel, τη Microsoft, το ίδρυμα Mozilla και τη Google.video format

The idea of this collaboration is to join forces, and use the knowledge gained from previous efforts to create the future form , as a global standard that is open and completely free.

Many companies from the partners mentioned above have occasionally developed their own video format. The Mozilla Foundation, for example, is developing Daala from 2013, Google VP10, while Cisco announced Thor just last month.

The co-operating companies have even published some technical information in a document describing its initial focus project.

Σύμφωνα με τις πληροφορίες, οι εταιρείες επιθυμούν μια νέα μορφή βίντεο (video format) που θα είναι διαλειτουργική και ανοικτή, επεκτάσιμη σε οποιαδήποτε συσκευή και εύρος ζώνης, βελτιστοποιημένη για το δια, optimized for hardware with a low computational footprint, capable of higher quality real-time video delivery, and of course suitable for commercial and non-commercial content.

Although not explicitly mentioned, the latter feature states that the new video format will support content encryption, one of the main requirements for streaming commercials such as Netflix and Amazon.

The next generation video format code will be released under license 2.0, and affiliates operate under the W3C patent rules. This essentially means that the members of the participating companies waive all rights to the codec and the patents of the codec itself.
