Η Microsoft just announced a series of cloud enhancements service OneDrive αλλά και το Outlook.com, παρέχοντας έτσι στους καταναλωτές ενισχυμένη προστασία και διαφάνεια (όπως αναφέρει) σε βασικά προϊόντα της.
From now on, Outlook.com accounts will be protected by TLS (Transport Layer Security) for incoming and outgoing emails, which means that all messages will be automatically encrypted as they are transferred between Microsoft servers and the recipient if uses TLS.
The company says this particular operation was made possible after intensive testing by other international mail services such as Deutsche Telekom, Yandex and Mail.Ru, which conducted the tests to see if the emails were actually encrypted.
At the same time, Outlook.com gained PFS (Perfect Forward Secrecy), which adds a new layer of protection when sending and receiving email from an account Pickupsoft.
“Perfect Forward Secrecy uses different wrenches of encryption for each connection, making it harder for attackers to decrypt connections,” the company explains.
The OneDrive cloud service also has PFS encryption from today, Microsoft has revealed, which means that everyone who stores archives in the cloud will have increased protection when entering the service, not only through the web interface, but also through the mobile applications.
Microsoft also announced the launch of a transparency center that is supposed to allow interested parties to analyze the source code of its various products, including the Windows operating system (but also Skype), to make sure there are no hidden backdoors. This is clearly supposed to come as a measure to combat recent allegations that Microsoft has developed hidden code in its software to spy on its users and that it has cooperated with US agencies in doing so.
