Ads in Firefox… no ads, sponsored content

Mozilla Firefox v60: We all know that nothing on the internet is free, and how big internet companies may seem to have free content (see Google or Facebook), but ultimately gain from our data and advertising. We have mentioned it in the past that we are the product.

The Mozilla Foundation could not miss the party. So soon (from next week) we will see ads being served through the Firefox browser. The problem is that Mozilla's browser does not hold the best market share at the moment, with Google Chrome prevailing by a wide margin.Firefox
Why is it a problem? The institution's move may disappoint many who choose Firefox for their daily browsing, and the frustration of the end user leaves no room for hopes of greater adoption of the browser.

Of course Mozilla is trying to gild the pill by stating that the details will not be sold to advertising companies.
Of course we should mention that the Mozilla Foundation does not consider sponsoring content, or accepting sponsorship for content… Yes, it is the positive reflow of the term advertising (ad) that sounds very badly in marketing.

So at least supports Nate Weiner, its founder and CEO . Mozilla acquired his company early last year.

Weiner said we need high quality content. At best, the Internet makes us laugh, makes us think, teaches us and brings us new perspectives. Content producers, for better or worse, depend on advertising to make their content available. But the model just no longer works, to protect users' privacy and with clickbait junk.

Unfortunately, this ad model does not work today. It does not respect users' privacy, it is not transparent and it lacks control, something that leads us to low quality content, clickbait.

What is the post-message? Yes we will serve ads but quality content…

Since the beginning of the year, the Mozilla Foundation has started showing some links in Firefox with recommended content on the new tab page. Some of the recommendations were sponsored. These links are already in the Nightly and Beta editions since last Monday. With Firefox 60, which will be released on May 9, the will be available to all Firefox users in the US.

The Mozilla Foundation promises that it will not send user data to advertising companies and will not collect it on the company's servers.

At Mozilla, we take your privacy very seriously. Το Activity Stream δεν θα αποστέλλει cookies και θα χρησιμοποιεί την ransport Layer Security for the secure transmission of data to Mozilla's servers.

The foundation states that the data collected will be stored on their servers securely for 30 days in anonymous and aggregated form. Then they will be permanently deleted…
