MX Linux: passed Manjaro distribution to Distrowatch's Hit Ranking

MX Linux: first in Distrowatch hits. Since I'm very involved with Linux, I visit often Distrowatch. The page is an online directory of Linux distributions. So you can search for the distribution you are interested in and find out if it meets your needs. The website is updated daily with new versions of distributions and open source applications.

Manjaro

Hit Ranking now using Distrowatch is a method of evaluating interest in the distributions hosted on the website. Essentially, the service counts the clicks that each distribution receives, highlighting those that interest most users.

This of the page, has at times become the bone of contention between major distributions that claim the top positions, as it is nothing more than a clicks counter of each distribution's page. The page displays data by year, month, 30 days, week, etc.

While there are many who consider DistroWatch as a non-objective source for the popularity of Linux projects, one that can not be denied is the age and completeness of the site. The page has been addressed to Linux friends for years, has almost every release that has been released and adds to any new distribution that is being distributed by developers.

This means that the majority of clicks come from Linux geeks, so the ranks are probably not so unrepresentative.

If you are trying to find other ranking results, a good source is Alexa.

But let's look at what has emerged in Distrowatch lately. For a very long time (since 2011) the Mint distribution held the number one spot in the DW Hit Ranking. But for some time now Manjaro, an Arch Linux fork, has been ranked in the Mint distribution. So since yesterday, for the first time, the MX Linux distribution managed to pass Manjaro:

Thus, the total ranking results for the last 6 months 2018-2019 and the first 20 distributions are as follows:

Let's mention that 14 of the 20 distributions are LTS (providing long-term support), and 1 of those 14 has (and) Release, δηλαδή κυλιόμενη εκδοσή. Φυσικά μιλάμε για το openSUSE Tumbleweed.

Four of the 14 have Rolling Releases only (Arch, Manjaro, Antergos, and Kali). The Solus distribution is semi-rolling and the Fedora distribution which is a cutting edge distribution but is not rolling.
OpenSUSE also has a LTS version called Leap.

Finally, the ReactOS distribution is an independent distribution and uses its principles to design it NT.

But let's talk about MX Linux.

At iGuRu.gr we love and highly recommend the MX Linux operating system. It is a Linux distribution based on the Debian stable, and we recommend it to anyone, experienced or beginner.

The distribution came from a between antiX and the discontinued MEPIS Linux communities.

It uses Xfce as the default desktop, and is an operating system that combines an elegant and efficient desktop with simple settings, high stability, consistent performance and minimal footprint. In short, it is a fairly light distribution that does not sacrifice quality.
MX Linux

MX Linux

This of course has not gone unnoticed by Linux friends, as we see in the Distrowatch ranking the distribution has now reached the first place, surpassing Manjaro, which has long been at the top.

But let's look at the rank that Alexa gives. This rank now concerns the global ranking of the website of each project, and is a method used as a metric traffic system. So we can talk about metrics that show the popularity of a website in relation to the rest globally, and no longer among geeks.

So in the pictures below you can see the Alexa rating in the distributions that are first in the Distrowatch ranking: MX, Manjato and Mint.

MX Linux

The ranking is very different, with Mint clearly ahead of the MX and Manjaro distributions. On the other hand, we notice a decrease in the traffic of the Mint page (pay attention to the graphic).

After all of the above, it's probably safe to say that Mint still holds the top spot globally, and that the MX Linux and Manjaro operating systems seem to be more popular with geeks, as they hold the top spot in the Distrowatch standings. .

Of course we would like to see your comments on the above text, and on what distribution you choose and why.
