New X-Planes from the United States Space Company. NASA, in addition to the spacecraft we all know, is also developing several other products. Products such as: memory foam, scratch-resistant glasses and insulin pumps. But it seems the US space agency continues unabated, planning the future of aviation, using green technologys.
Upon its inception New Aviation Horizons initiative, NASA wants to develop a new generation of X-Planes over the next ten years.
NASA's famous X-Planes have already set some important milestones in the past. X-1 breached its barrier sound, in October 1947.
More record? They are the first airplanes that managed to fly above 30.000, 60.000, and 90,000m with three, four, five, and six times the speed of the sound.
This time, NASA is hoping to achieve and promote the use of green technology in the aviation sector.
The Agency's efforts will greatly help to reduce or eliminate the use of fossil fuels by air fleets, which will contribute to reducing global carbon dioxide emissions.
But according to NASA, the project will take some time. The agency stated that the process planning and construction of the first new X-Plane will take several years.
Lockheed Martin, which managed to get a $ 20 million dollar contract in February this year, will create preliminary plans for NASA's Quiet Supersonic Technolofy (QueSST). If everything goes well, the first flight is set to take 2020.
One of QueSST's goals is to create silent X-Planes without the annoying sound explosion that sounds when the sound barrier breaks.
