NEC scientists have managed to create one system control biometric identifier that uses a person's ear to allow them to access sensitive information.
At a time when fingerprints may be violated, some iris scanners may be fooled by 2D images, and passwords do not provide security, scientists thought of turning to another member of our body. It really makes it difficult to invent and construct the inner part of the ear and thus the circumvention of the safety measure will be much more difficult.
The researchers report that the authentication system they devised works by sending a sound into one's ear and then measure the echo they receive.
Echo is reflected by the outer channels of one's ear, in the tympanic film, and by the sound that goes beyond the tympanic membrane and is reflected in the inner parts of the ear.
This reaction is transformed into a digital signal, which acts as a unique identifier for each individual.
NEC, the company behind this new technology, he says that their system has a precision of more than 99%. He also says that new technology could be marketed by 2018.
The most obvious use of this particular one technology
NEC says the whole process will take about a second.
