HiJackThis+ is a free utility for Windows that scans your computer for settings that have been changed by adware, spyware, malware, and other unwanted programs. In short, it works like Sysinternals Autoruns.
HiJackThis+ by Alex Dragokas is a continuation of the evolution of Trend Micro HiJackThis, based on v.2.0.6 but 100% rewritten. HiJackThis+ was originally supported by Trend Micro, but they later stopped supporting it and closed the repository on GitHub.
HiJackThis+ (Plus) (used to be: HiJackThis Fork v3) is a fork, i.e. a continuation of the original Trend Micro HiJackThis implementation by Merijn Bellekom.
The new HiJackThis+ is distributed under the original GPLv2 license. It includes many tools and plugins and comes as freeware.
The difference from classic antivirus programs is the ability to operate without constant database updates, because HiJackThis+ primarily detects hijacking methods instead of comparing items from a pre-built database (with digital signatures).
This allows it to detect new or unknown malware.
Caution in use: It is not for beginners.
