HiJackThis+ is a free utility for Windows that scans your computer for settings that have been changed by adware, spyware, malware and other unwanted programs. In short, it works like Sysinternals autoruns.
HiJackThis+ by Alex Dragokas is a continuation of the evolution of Trend Micro HiJackThis, based on v.2.0.6 but 100% rewritten. HiJackThis+ was originally supported by Trend Micro, but they later stopped supporting it and closed the repository on GitHub.
HiJackThis+ (Plus) (used to be: HiJackThis Fork v3) is a fork, i.e. a continuation of the original Trend Micro HiJackThis implementation by Merijn Bellekom.
The new HiJackThis+ is distributed under the original GPLv2 license. It includes a lot tools and plugins and comes as freeware.
The difference from classic anti-virus programs is the ability to run without continuous updates of the database, because HiJackThis+ mainly detects hijacking methods instead of comparing elements from a pre-built database (with digital signatures).
This allows it to detect new or unknown malware.
Caution in use: It is not for beginners users.
