Nokia buys the French company Alcatel-Lucent according an official announcement carried out by the Finnish technology company.
Although until yesterday Nokia claimed that the outcome of the negotiation talks had not progressed, today it announced that it acquired the French telecommunications equipment maker Alcatel-Lucent for over 16.6 billions of dollars.
The deal is expected to be completed in the first half of 2016. The takeover will help Nokia become a major supplier of equipment with further networking. So the Finnish company will continue to compete in the Ericsson market.
The French telecommunications equipment company is expected to start using it commercial signal of Nokia, but will also retain its Bell Labs name Alcatel-Lucent for R&D purposes (Research and Development).
"With more than 40.000 R&D employees and € 4,7 billion in funding in 2014, the combined company will be able to accelerate the development of future technologies such as 5G, IP, networking software, cloud, analytics, as well as imaging sensors ", Nokia states in its official statement.
Nokia also says it is in the process of reviewing HERE maps and is considering selling it. The review is already in progress, and according to the company, this can lead or not lead to any transaction. We have to wait to see.
