Surprised today by the NSA who uploaded the source code of an application on GitHub to help Linux system administrators lock down their networks.
The open source software launched by the information service is called System Integrity Management Platform (SIMP) and is designed to help you make sure your networks comply with US Department of Defense security standards Defenses.
The service says it can be customized by managers to meet their individual security needs.
"The open source software method of transferring technology from federal labs to the marketplace is extremely effective," said Linda Burger, director of the Proletterof NSA Technology Transfer.
"The open source community can leverage it project of the NSA, and the government can benefit from the expertise and perspective of further development of the application by the community. It's a win for everyone -.. And for the nation itself"
To use the software, you must be running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.6 or 7.1, or equivalent versions of CentOS. The software was released under version 2 of the Apache License.
Traffic comes as part of the ongoing technology transfer program of NSA, a program that aims to make the code available at home and its availability in the open source community to enhance security.
The NSA budget is secret, it is rumored to be a little less than a billion dollars a month. So it's nice to give something to the online community in addition to watching everyone.
