The research company IDC released its report for the first quarter of 2014, according to which the PC market declined by 4,4%, recording shipments of 73,4 million systems.
The performance, although negative, is considered encouraging since the initial forecasts wanted the downward course to reach the levels of -5,3%. An important role in the relative improvement of the market was allegedly played by the end of support for the functional σύστημα Windows XP, που έστρεψε αρκετούς χρήστες στην αγορά νέων συστημάτων.
More analytically, the market in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the market seems to be stabilizing thanks to the professional demand for new systems to replace Windows XP operating systems. The United States market continued to stabilize with shipments reaching 14,3 million systems, an increase of 0,6% compared to the first quarter of 2013. The systems desktop with moved up by 3,5%, while laptops remained on a negative course. The Japanese market showed steady growth, while most markets in the Asia/Pacific region moved downward.
At manufacturer level, Lenovo has maintained the world's leading edge in delivering 12,962 million systems and holding a market share of 17,7%. Compared to the same period last year, Lenovo rose by 10,5%.

Dell achieved growth of 9,3%, its best performance since the fourth quarter of 2011, while it increased for the third consecutive quarter. The American company had 9,856 deliveries of millions of systems, with a market share of 13,4%.
In fourth place was Acer, which continues its stabilization efforts. The Taiwanese company is showing a 20,2% year-on-year drop in shipments, which appears to be due to weak consumer demand, high competition and a shift to 2-in-1 devices and tablets. For the first quarter of 2013 it had shipped 4,992 million systems and a market share of 6,8%.
The top five manufacturers inclpays Asus with an annual decrease of 8,1%. The company had shipments of 4,296 million systems and a market share of 5,9%. All other manufacturers worldwide shipped 28,757 million PCs representing 39,2% of the total market. Figures for these manufacturers were down 13,1%.
