Η OpenAI today announced the general availability of GPT-4, its latest text generation model, through its paid API.
As of this afternoon, all existing OpenAI API developers “with a history of successful payments” can access GPT-4.
The company plans to open access to new developers by the end of this month, and then start increasing availability limits after that "based on compute availability."
"Millions of developers have requested access to the GPT-4 API since March, and the range of innovative products leveraging GPT-4 is growing every day," says OpenAI in a post on her blog.
"We envision a future where the chat models they will be able to support any use case.”
GPT-4 can generate text (including code) and accept image and text inputs – an improvement over GPT-3.5, its predecessor, which only accepted text. GPT-4 can perform at a “human level” in different professional and academic benchmarks.
Like OpenAI's previous GPT models, GPT-4 was trained using publicly available data, from public websites, as well as data licensed by OpenAI.
Image understanding is not yet available to all OpenAI customers. The company is currently testing the new feature with a single partner, Be My Eyes, to begin with.
