Microsoft has reportedly added "palm-vein" support to Windows 10 Pro. The new feature comes as an add-on for authentication in Windows Hello that already features face recognition and fingerprint scanning.
Authentication with your palm veins, developed in cooperation with Fujitsu. The company is in the process of developing biometrics technology of palm-vein identification in 80.000 workers in Japan.
This corporate cooperation means that Windows 10 Pro users will be able to use Fujitsu PalmSecure sensors that will be integrated into the Fujitsu laptop keyboard or a USB-connected scanner.
Users will place their hand over the sensor, rather than touching it as they would with a fingerprint sensor. THE sweeper it's already built into Fujitsu's Lifebook and Stylystic series laptops.
The scan focuses on a few veins on the arm to authenticate users and of course no one is required code accesss. An advantage over fingerprint and facial recognition is that it is much more difficult to copy the veins under the skin.
Fujitsu markets PalmSecure as a "contactless, hygienic and non-invasive" authentication system and states that palm detection has a false identification rate of 0.00008 percent and an authentication failure rate of only 0.01 percent.
Fujitsu also reports that Brazilian bank Banco Bradesco and Korean credit card company Lotte Card are already using the technology.
