Cheaters try to convince you to give them access to your pc

The Cybercrime Prosecution Office informs internet users about scammers trying to deceive you over the phone to give them access to your computer.

A new scam has begun in Greece with scammers calling potential victims, introducing themselves as part of either their antivirus or internet access provider, and asking for remote access to your computer to ensure you will not no one can hack you.

Of course once you give them access, (usually via teamviewer ή Anydesk or through Windows Remote Management) scammers scan your computer for cached s. And if you use your pc for some e- you run a high risk of having all your money pulled from the bank.

The Directorate of Cybercrime Prosecution informs the citizens - internet users about the attempt of deception, through fraudulent phone calls

The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate has recently reported many cases of fraudulent telephone calls to citizens, with the aim of deceiving them.

In particular, unknown perpetrators pretending to be technicians in centers of major software companies, are "willing" to help citizens solve technical problems on their computers or to verify the authenticity of programs installed on their computers so that they can continue to use them.

In this context, they ask unsuspecting citizens to install remote access software on their PCs, thus gaining control of their computer and all the data stored on it, such as:

  • e-banking accounts,
  • social media accounts,
  • photos and videos,
  • browsing history,
  • passwords for applications and websites, etc.

These data are then used in various illegal activities.

Citizens are advised to be especially careful, not to respond to these and not to disclose personal data and information to various astute.

In case they have disclosed personal data it is suggested:

  • immediate removal of the applications that the cybercriminals requested to install,
  • factory reset, on any accessed devices (after backing up),
  • full security scan to detect infected or dangerous programs, with the help of updated security software,
  • change passwords and use strong passwords, combined characters and complexity (uppercase - lowercase - symbols - numbers) and
  • direct contact with the competent -in case- banking institution in case of transactions - transfers of funds that you do not recognize.

In addition, in any case, report the incident of technical support to the company whose technicians were proficient and report the incident to the Director of Electronic Crime Prosecution:
