Pinguy Builder: The following post is for those using Ubuntu who are thinking of building their own Live system of Canonical's Ubuntu operating system.
Pinguy Builder developers have created an open source utility that allows everyone to create the Pinguy OS operating system.
The PinguyOS is a Linux distribution based on the Ubuntu framework, and Builder was recently updated to support Ubuntu 17.04 versions of Zesty Zapus, Ubuntu 17.10 Artful Aardvark and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Bionic Beaver.
Pinguy Builder is a fork of the well-known Remastersys tool that is no longer available. It contains all the scripts required to create a Live ISO from any of the Ubuntu versions mentioned above.
It's simple to use, and will create the image you want within minutes and without much hassle.
Of course, you can use it to make copies security of your system.
Pinguy Builder 5.0 is the latest version you need to install to create an image of the above versions of Ubuntu Ubuntu LTS 18.04, will be released on April 26 of 2018).
For the installation open a terminal and run the following commands:
(If at some point you have installed an older version of Pinguy Builder, run the second command first)
sudo apt-get purge pinguybuilder
The Pinguy Builder is quite simple to use. It will automatically create a Live ISO of your current system. You can then pass the Live ISO to a USB and boot from there, either for testing or for a new installation. The live image can contain your entire system, so you can keep the USB as a backup of your system.
The Pinguy Builder application offers full EFI support, including an EFI space. It also creates a pool folder with grub-efi for those who prefer offline installations.
Let's say that free application uses the XZ compression algorithm to compress the file system enough, which results in smaller ISO image sizes.
