Yesterday morning (16.06.2014) the Directorate for the Prosecution of Electronic Crime arrested a citizen, a website administrator, against whom a case file was filed for continuous computer fraud and violation of intellectual property legislation.
The Directorate for the Prosecution of Electronic Crime carried out an investigation of the specific case, in the context of its continuous action aimed at combating the phenomenon of piracyof intellectual property rights, via the Internet.
In particular, a digital website was found from the online survey conducted through the movement of music and audiovisual works without the relevant intellectual property rights being paid. Followed by a digital investigation, through which the website administrator and his place of residence were identified.
From the legal investigation, in the presence of a judicial officer, carried out by a team of police officers, at home of the perpetrator, in the area of Piraeus, it was established that he has the rights to manage the website and he was arrested as part of the automatic procedure.
During the investigation, an (1) internal computer disk was seized and seized and sent to the Police of Forensic Laboratories Division of the Greek Police for examination.
In addition, the digital investigation revealed that the offender was managing thousands of Internet users who had access to hundreds of thousands of audiovisual archives (music, movies, etc.) illegally held without the required permission of the legitimate beneficiaries of the intellectual property rights ownership, but also related rights of corporation members of the Audiovisual Protection Company.
Through this activity, the administrator of the website was making significant money benefits, amounting to hundreds of thousands of euros and for which further investigation is being carried out at a financial and tax level.
The arrested, with his filed case file, was led to the Prosecutor's Office of Piraeus.
It should be noted that the Electronic Crime Prosecutor's Office, in recent times, has identified a number of websites through which millions of musical pieces and films have circulated daily. It is estimated that over 2.500.000 was registered users on websites, with tax evasion in these cases approaching 78.000.000 euros.
