Piriform, developer of CCleaner after widespread backlash, has withdrawn the latest version of the application. With version 5.45 it was functionally impossible to avoid the collection data.
Such as we mentioned yesterday, CCleaner version 5.45 was sending anonymous information of the system in Piriform, and users of the application could not disable this feature, since even after disabling the application continued to send data.
Of course, the behavior provoked reactions last week and so Piriform, (a subsidiary of Avast) took back the latest version of CCleaner at the weekend.
The forum of the application states:
We are currently working on separating the cleaning functions from the assembly analytics και την προσφορά περισσότερων επιλογών ελέγχου στους χρήστες του CCleaner που θα θυμάται μετά την επανεκκίνηση. Δημιουργούμε επίσης ένα ενημερωτικό δελτίο, το οποίο θα περιγράφει τα δεδομένα που συλλέγουμε, για ποιους σκοπούς και πώς γίνεται η επεξεργασία τους.
Today we removed v5.45 and reinstated v5.44 as the main CCleaner download while we work on a new edition with several key improvements.
It's a step for sure, remember that program user settings after closing the app!
Needless to say, the next version of CCleaner should completely remove these dark patterns and make it clear to users why it collects and what it does with their data.
Of course we still do not recommend using CCleaner regardless of the company promises.
