Jackett is a powerful tool that acts like a proxy server, allowing you to access various torrent indexes without having to visit each site individually.
It acts as a bridge between the qBittorrent app and many torrent trackers, providing a unified qBittorrent search interface.
By installing Jackett, you can expand your search capabilities and gain access to a wider range of torrent sources. It supports a huge number of indexers, such as the popular 1337x, Pirate Bay and others.
Installing Jackett and integrating it with qBittorrent:
First you need to install it qBittorrent. Then download the latest version of “Jacket” from the official website.
You will be asked if you want this application to make changes to your computer, select “yes”.
If you want to install Jackett as a Windows service, make sure you check the “Install as Windows Service” checkbox.
Once the installation is complete, check the “Launch Jackett” box to start.
In your browser open the internal page http://127.0.0.1:9117
Now you're ready to start adding the trackers you want to use with Jackett.
Click on “Indexers” in the Jackett interface. You will see a list of supported torrent indexes. Click on the ones you want to use.
You should remember, that as long as Jackett is open, it will work.
In qBittorrent now, click on the View tab and click on “Search Engine” or “Search Engine”. Click Check for Updates and the app will automatically install the Jackett plugin.
The Jackett plugin uses an external configuration file. This allows the plugin to be updated without losing settings.
The jackett.json file should be in your qBittorrent browser folder:
Windows: C:\Users\User_Name\AppData\Local\qBittorrent\nova3\engines\jackett.json
Linux: ~/.local/share/data/qBittorrent/nova3/engines/,
ή
~/.local/share/qBittorrent/nova3/engines/,
ή
~/.var/app/org.qbittorrent.qBittorrent/data/qBittorrent /nova3/engines if using Flatpak
OS X: ~/Library/Application Support/qBittorrent/nova3/engines/
Note: If the file does not exist, you can create it by copying the following JSON:
{ “api_key”: “YOUR_API_KEY_HERE”, // add API KEY from jackett app “url”: ”http://127.0.0.1:9117”, “tracker_first”: false, “thread_count”: 20 }
If installed as a service, the tray icon acts as a way to open/start/stop Jackett. If you chose not to install it as a service, then Jackett will run the web server from the tray tool.
You can now use Jackett to search for torrents directly from within qBittorrent.
