On March 31st (no it's not an April Fool's joke) Red Hat announced the free its availability Red Hat Enterprise Linux to all developers who will enroll in the company's new Developer Program.
So if you are a developer you can download the latest version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux from the official Red Hat website.
“With Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat JBoss Middleware available through the program at no cost, developers can use the technology to start projects and explore solutions, and their development platforms and tools will not need porting and will not present incompatibility issues,” said Harry Mowersenior, head of Red Hat's Developer Tools and Marketing.
But let's see what happens. Functional Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat JBoss Middleware are offered for free and can be used for local application development only, and not for productive use, for which a paid subscription is required.
The free RedHat Enterprise Linux Developer Suite consists of RedHat Enterprise Linux Server, various development tools supported by Red Hat for 10 years, including: PHP, Python, Ruby, OpenJDK 7 (1.7), and OpenJDK 8 (1.8), as well as many other open source development tools that receive tactics updates from the community.
