The SlySoft software company had to shut down its website and stop making the popular Blu-ray AnyDVD copy application available. If you're wondering why, better to ask Hollywood.
Earlier this month AACS LA, a licensing group fromencryptions founded by cinemagraphics Hollywood studios and other major technological Companies such as Microsoft and Intel, reminded the US government of SlySoft's unauthorized activities.
SlySoft is well-known for selling various tools for circumventing copyright protection, as did the very popular AnyDVD application, which sold tens of thousands of copies.
In 2014 AACS-LA won a court case against the software maker from Antigua, where a local court found SlySoft owner Giancarla Bettini guilty under the Copyright Act of 2003 and ordered him to pay a fine of $5.000 per offence.
However, despite the AACS victory, nothing changed. According to TorrentFreak, the owner of SlySoft immediately filed an appeal and was released. Meanwhile, AnyDVD continued to run freely.
That changed yesterday when the website suddenly went down when the domain's primary nameservers were deleted. It was initially unclear what caused the downtime, but a few hours ago SlySoft confirmed with a brief statement what many feared: The legal problems.
“Due to recent regulatory requirements we have stopped all activities related to SlySoft Inc. We would like to thank our loyal customers for their support all these years. ”
