A US appeals court on Tuesday struck down the FCC's attempt to require internet providers to give consumers equal access to legal content, a policy its supporters call net neutrality.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has no legal authority to enact 2011's regulations, which were challenged in an action brought by the Verizon Communications Incsaid the US Court of Appeal in the District of Columbia Circuit.
"Even if the commission has general jurisdiction over regulation in this area, it cannot impose requirements that violate express commands of the law," the judge said David Tatel.
Η FCC could appeal the decision or appeal to the US Supreme Court, or even try to rewrite the regulations in order to satisfy the appeal court.
During the duration of purchases in September, her attorney Verizon stated that the regulations violate the right of the company on free speech and bare what their networks broadcast and how.
