Samsung has announced its new Gear S2 smartwatch, which appears to be taking a new design direction as it ditches the digital screen. Apart from this obvious change, the Samsung Gear S2 also has two buttons on the side for the Home and Back functions.
The new SmartWatch it comes with a rotating bezel around its screen, which can also be used as a controller. Good idea.
There will be two distinct designs: Gear S2 and S2 Classic.
As the name suggests, the latest version will look like the timeless style we know, while the former looks a bit more modern. By the way, both models are certified with IP68, which means they are resistant to water and dust.
The 1,2 screen has a resolution of 360×360 and offers a resolution of 302 PPI. The new smartwatch will run with the operating system Tizen by Samsung.
The new watch also has cellular connectivity that is accessible via an e-SIM (yes, voice calls can be made).
The Gear S2 also supports the technology NFC, but it is not yet clear whether payments or ticketing for example will be possible.
Samsung claims its battery can last for "two to three" days, but better let's wait and see it in action.
The device runs on a dual-core 1GHz processor, 512MB RAM and has 4GB of storage, which can be used to store music on the watch when you go for a run. Also mention that it has a heart rate monitor.
