The Directorate for the Prosecution of Electronic Crime solved a case of continuous fraud against subscription satellite channel companies and arrested two citizens
Those arrested had for sale satellite receivers, which were preloaded with illegal software, so that each receiver was connected via the Internet to a specific central computer system (server), with the purpose of viewing subscription channels by thousands of illegal users, without paying the prescribed monthly subscription
At the same time, the level of tax evasion is investigated by this illegal activity, which, according to an estimate of one of the companies, amounts to EUR 17.000.000
From the Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate, another important case has been solved, which concerns continuous fraud and violations of the legislation on intellectual property and the protection of subscription services, via the Internet, professionally and continuously. Two (2) citizens, aged 49 and 28, were arrested for the case, against whom a case file was opened.
In particular, the investigation of the case began with a digital analysis and the use of data and information by police officers from the Criminal Intelligence Division on a criminal group that had for sale in tourist areas satellite decoders that had been preloaded with illegal software TV).
In this way, every illegal user of this receiver was connected via the internet to a specific central system (server), which was located abroad, in order to watch a "digital bouquet" of subscription channels from Greece and abroad.
At the same time, charges were filed with the Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate by two subscriber satellite channels companies, each responsible person.
After a thorough analysis of the data and elements of the case, a police team from the Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate went to the area of Halkidiki in the morning hours of 23-07-2015 and carried out a lawful search in a shop, which is maintained by the 49-year-old arrested and where the 28-year-old arrested worked as a technician.
Two (49) Internet satellite receivers, which were illegally modified and programmed, were found in the 2 Vehicle's XNUMX Vehicle Storage Space to obtain subscription channel views over the Internet without paying legal assistance to companies. In addition, another online satellite receiver has been found at the store, illegally modified and programmed.
In addition, five (5) external USB storage media and four (4) computer hard disks were found and seized.
The seized digital testimonies will be sent to the Criminal Investigation Division for appropriate laboratory tests and customer inquiries, which, according to information, is the number of 22.000 in Greece and abroad, as well as the possibility of identifying the financial loss both the subscription companies and the Greek State.
At the same time, the amount of tax evasion from this illegal activity is investigated, according to an estimate of one of the companies, amounting to 17.000.000 euro.
The arrested, with their filed case file, were brought to the competent Prosecutor.
