RSA Asia: Pop star and activist Sir Bob Geldof hates Pokemon Go, Facebook and Twitter, and as he says he never bought anything online. It still uses an ancient Nokia 3100 so it does not have to take care of its safety on the internet.
The Irish pop star was found in Singapore during the closing of the RSA Security Conference.
He said digital lives are a distraction from the mission of humanity that gives way to "idiots" like Democratic presidential candidate Donald Trump, to far-right anti-immigration parties, and to bringing prosperity to the poor.
"I have absolutely no need for any cyber security because of this device," Sir Bob told delegates, displaying his ancient silver Nokia.
"Άνθρωποι People are fed up with nonsense like Pokemon Go, for fuck's sake."
Sir Bob Geldof said he was "very disappointed and saddened" by Brexit, and feared the rise of nationalist and far-right leaders.
On the other hand, he praised the ability of technology to spread prosperity, but he pointed to the huge gap in education and substantial access between the Western and the developing world, prompting those responsible to think about how IT could help relieve poverty.
Bob had flown to Singapore after a concert with Boomtown Rats at Brentwood Festival in the United Kingdom.
Certainly the acclaimed artist added a unique, more human touch to the RSA Security Conference.
