Skype 1.7 Alpha for Linux: Microsoft today released a new version of Skype Alpha for Linux. This is a totally redesigned software that has nothing to do with the previous version of Skype 4.3.
The app is still in early development and lacks some basic features like video calling or sharing screen.
The latest version is Skype 1.7 Alpha for Linux and brings the following changes:
Fixed behavior of unread messages (when opening a chat window in unread messages, the screen will focus on the first unread message. Of course you can scroll, and the messages will be marked as read.
New grid layout for group calls.

The new Skype 1.7 Alpha for Linux only supports the latest version of the Skype protocol. Due to this limitation, the application is unable to communicate with them users using Skype for Linux on the ancient version 4.3.0.37.
With the new Skype Alpha for Linux, however, you will be able to receive messages and calls from the latest versions of Skype for Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android.
