The Skype service is currently down on Greece and in some other countries. Microsoft is aware of the problem and is already working on a fix.
The company has not said what its likely cause is vacationand prompts us to use the web-based service, i.e. web.skype.com which seems to be working normally.
At present, the users affected by the issue cannot change their status (online, away, do not disturb etc) and all their contacts are shown as offline.
New calls are not working at this time, but instant messages are still delivered as usual.
Microsoft said in a statement released today:
“Some of you may have problems with it Skype or Whatsapp and you can't go online. We found a problem with the settings Skype status. We are working on a patch for this issue and hope to have an update for you soon. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused”
There's no word on when the issue will be resolved, but it's pretty clear that Microsoft is working hard speed to bring the instant messaging service back online
