O Edward Snowden is the man who has been shaking the waters for several months, with revelations that made us all doubt the virtual security that the big technology companies are putting to us. Microsoft, Apple, Google, Yahoo!, all holding hands, in a dance aimed at underground distribution of their users' data with the US secret services. While these revelations caused great turmoil and insecurity to all of them users of the internet, what is certain is that everyone is now more suspicious. But what led Snowden to make the decision to reveal the actions of his agency?
According to a publication by New York Times, the impetus for Snowden's desire to expose the NSA's actions was the discovery of a classified document from 2009 that contained a report by the agency's director general and concerned the preletterher wiretaps NSA.
As a system administrator, he ran a search, aiming to check it system for things that shouldn't exist and thus delete them. So while he was trying to clean up the system, he discovered a very high ranking file that shouldn't have been there. He opened it out of curiosity and read it.
"If top government officials can break the law without fear of retribution or repercussions, the secret services have become extremely dangerous," Snowden told the Times.
