Η company Social Sweepster specializes in just that: examining and "cleaning" a user's Facebook and Twitter pages from photos and publications that may have deterred a potential employer from offering employment to the candidate. As mentioned in a related NY Times article, the company was founded by Tom McGrath, a graduate of Indiana University, and its "advantage" over other similar firms is that it not only searches for "dreaded" text, but also photos.
Two other companies with a similar object are SimpleWash, which explores Facebook and Twitter accounts for "dangerous" keywords, and Socially Clean, which analyzes the Facebook profile and the posts it has made to friends' profiles. However, although the two companies can "read" the text in the photos, they are not able to analyze the content of the images themselves. According to McGraw, it would be easier to identify possible "unobtrusive" photos associated with a user's online identity if the work was undertaken by computers.
If the user gives the Social Sweepster access to his Facebook or Twitter account, it begins to "scan" the timeline all the way back to 2005. Its filters can detect photos of objects that may be potentially "dangerous" as they are associated with particular...situations , such as beer cans or bottles etc. The user can then manage the indicated photos as desired.
The service is currently in beta, and according to McGrath, the company will allow users to scan free months for a few months and charge for longer periods of time.
