The American company better safetyς Proofpoint revealed how behind the last major round of press attacks spam e-mails, the officers are no more than our ... our refrigerators!
According to the company, hackers managed to convert various networked, home appliances into spambots, exploiting the various weaknesses in their - virtually non-existent - security systems. This, as a result "smart" refrigerators became part of the spammers network, sending more than 750.000 e-mails to unsuspecting recipients.
This particular event was the first of its kind and it sounds the alarm for the manufacturers of "smart" devices everywhere, who should take serious measures in the programming of the operating systems they integrate into their products. Imagine that we, as users, are not only at risk of unwittingly turning our home into a spam-bot, but also of potential eavesdropping of sensitive data, like them codeus for the various accounts we have in various services (Google, YouTube e.g.).
