UK phone company and broadband provider TalkTalk was the target of a "significant and sustained cyberattack" on Wednesday. According to TNW, there is a possibility that four were leaked millions personal information from its customers, including their credit card details.
The company took down all websites yesterday and is trying to secure its systems first and then bring them back up online. The Metropolitan Police's cyber crime unit is said to be investigating the matter, but has yet to establish whether the company's customer account details have been compromised.
TalkTalk even says it hadn't encrypted all the data, meaning attackers could easily analyze some of the information των χρηστών. όπως ονόματα, e-mail, addresses, dates of birth, telephone numbers and bank details.
As with such incidents, the company's clients risk falling victim to fraud. For this reason, TalkTalk reports that it will offer one year's free credit monitoring for all its customers.
TalkTalk is responsible for infringement;
"Unfortunately, cybercrime is the crime of our generation. "There have been 625.000 cybercrimes every month in the UK this summer," said CEO Dido Harding in a public statement to the BBC.
The really worrying thing here, however, is that hackers have not only been able to access the TalkTalk systems but also have access to unencrypted personal data.
At this point there is certainly a responsibility.
