Until recently, the way to hail a taxi was with the familiar movement of the hand. Now the choice is made before the vehicle is even seen approaching. And it's up to him again, but in a very different way.
It's about it Taxibeat, the pioneering Greek application for mobiles and computers, which has conquered the whole world. Using it, the passenger can choose which taxi driver to call to take him to his destination, choosing based on the highest score, the vehicle, how close it is to where he is, but also depending on the extra services that offers.
Having conquered Greece, this application has begun to become particularly popular around the world. After Bucharest, Paris, Oslo, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Mexico City, Taxibeat will serve passengers in Constantinople and Lima in the coming months.
In fact, as proven in practice, the application forces taxi drivers to upgrade the services they provide. "The possibility that the user has to rate the driver forces the driver to try harder. There are guides that offer bottled water, others that have magazines for the customer to flip through duration of the route and others that offer free wi-fi", says Spyros Dovas, the company's business development manager, to "Ethnos".
The inspirer of the idea was Nikos Drandakis, who three years ago created together with his associates the company when he was in a remote area where he could not find a taxi.
