Telegram is considered one of the best alternatives to WhatsApp and this was proven a few weeks ago when the company owned by Facebook stopped working for a few hours.
The event prompted many users to turn to alternatives, such as Telegram, whose adoption was launched.
Telegram has surpassed the 1 billion download mark on Google Play Store.
According to her founder Telegram, Pavel Durov, after the cessation of WhatsApp, at least 70 million new accounts were created within a few hours.
"Telegram's daily growth rate has exceeded the norm and we have welcomed over 70 million refugees from other platforms in one day. I'm proud of how our team handled the unprecedented growth, because Telegram continued to work flawlessly for the vast majority of our users. "Some users in America may have noticed slower speeds than usual, as millions of users from the continent were trying to subscribe to Telegram at the same time," said Pavel Durov.
Needless to say, the actual number of downloads of the Telegram app for Android could be significantly higher, as the aforementioned number only includes installations made through the Google Play store.
Of course, there are Apple downloads, but no data is available as the company does not share such information.
