The Battle of the Functional

office
In a new era the operating systems developed by the companies. More complete offerings for many devices free of charge or with monthly subscription.

As far as the Microsoft suite is concerned, the biggest news was the announcement of "Office for iPad" at the end of March. A first version of Office for tablets, which even makes a virgin appearance in a non-Windows-based model, Office for iPad includes Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The programs are designed from the beginning so they are completely handy through the touch screen, so the impressions they have left on experts and not to be very positive, as is our opinion. Therefore, it is rather normal that in just a week, the plants touched 12 millions.

In the space since the launch, the US company has taken care to integrate print capability directly from the iPad, which was initially absent. In addition, she made her suite more tempting and honorable for those who want to process Office files on their tablet. That's why at the end of April, we launched the Office 365 service for personal use, through which you can subscribe to Office for iPad with Office for a PC or one for 7 € per month (or 69 € per year) Mac. Until that time, the tablet suite was exclusively provided with the "Office 365 Domestic Use" service, with a monthly subscription of 10 € (or 99 € per year).

A few days ago, Google "responded" to the appearance of Office on the iPad, launching for all "smart" Android and iOS devices the and Google Sheets, two applications for writing documents and spreadsheets respectively. Like Google Slides, which the internet giant will launch soon, the two applications are the first by Google to allow users to store the files they create on their device, without the need for connection to the Internet. Until now, to access the American company suite from a tablet or "smart" mobile phone, one had to use the "internet hard drive" Drive, which was also the only available option for storing files.

One of the major benefits of the programs is that they are completely free of charge, and they are the only ones that are compatible with all existing smartphones and tablets - except for Windows Phone-powered mobiles. They also allow anyone to "lock" them, defining the password of their choice. At the same time, however, they include fewer functions than the two companies' respective programs, which are even less in the case of Google Docs and Google Sheets for Apple's "smart" devices. So, for the time being, for example, Google Docs on iPad does not allow the import of pictures and charts, or the creation of headers and footers.

For mobile phones

The three internet giants may increasingly place their office suites on "smart" devices, but that does not mean that the programs developed by less well-known companies are inevitably overshadowed. One example is Microsoft's move to offer the Office Mobile (Office Mobile) version of the iPhone and Android smartphones by the end of March. Office Mobile lets you view and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, and is fully compatible with Office for PC and Mac, but has the disadvantage that it does not allow storage on the device and therefore requires Internet connectivity. Even if you choose Google's alternative as an alternative, the problem in this case is that you can not "open" attachments to mail.

So for Android phones, three suites that do not have the above limitations are FreeOffice and Kingsoft Office as well as OfficeSuite Pro 7 that costs 7,23 euros. The three suites can also be used in tablets with Google's operating system, from which Microsoft and Apple products are "missing" anyway.

On the other hand, with regard to iPhone, Apple's iWork solution is also advantageous for smartphones purchased last September, since in this case the US company has Pages, Numbers and Keynote at 9 each. The same applies to the owners of an Apple tablet purchased earlier than September, who also do not want to choose the "Office for iPad" subscription.
