4.419 ago was uploaded to BitTorrent sites, the ASCII remake of the sci-fi movie “The Matrix.” According to TorrentFreak, it is the oldest torrent that is still circulating.
This means that seeders manage to exchange the movie through BitTorrent for over 12 years now.
This particular version of the film, created by friends of the genre, is 4GB of VOB files video. It includes disc images, as well as a readme that includes the following announcement:
"This work is a parody. Therefore I do not believe that this DVD has the potential to compete with the original in any market. It is not for sale. "
The torrent was created 4.419 days ago, that is on December 20, 2003. Thus, it was able to win the title of the longest running torrent, beating the previous old archive which was a recipe book uploaded to Pirate bay. The recipe book survived for at least 10 years.
Most tοrrents usually do not work in a couple of years when users delete files from their hard disks. So the fact that a movie in ASCII version, managed to survive 12 years, is really impressive.
