Check for hidden managers on your Android device

The Device Administration for Android is a powerful API first released with Android 2.2. It offers several features at the system level, and makes a lot of features available, such as remote format, saving data to another device or applying password rules .Android 1

Apps that request administrator privileges on the device, as you have already noticed, are requesting the owner permission to access that API.

You can of course check which apps have these permissions on any Android device with 2.2 and up. To do so open your device settings and select security.

There you have to find an option that will allow you to see all the device administrators. Administrators are listed with their name and a brief description of what they can do. You can also see if one of them is active or not at the time you check your device.

A problem faced by Android users is that malicious apps do not appear on the list, and let them have administrator privileges.

Trend Micro's Hidden Device Admin Detector application is designed to detect your Android device for these hidden administrators.

Very easy to use, you just need to press the scan button. Scan does not last long. If the application detects a hidden manager, it will ask you to enable it to disable it from your system.

The application is ideal for users of old versions of Android, as malware can not be hidden in new releases, or at least Google claims. Trend Micro's Hidden Device Admin Detector application does not require special permissions.
