The controversial Turkish law on the internet was signed by President Abdullah Gul.
The announcement was made through its Twitter feed. The law is seen by many, including Turkish opposition groups and human rights groups, as violating citizens' freedoms.
"I know the problems, especially in two σημεία … αυτές οι ανησυχίες θα πρέπει να ληφθούν υπόψη στο νέο νόμο,” δήλωσε ο Γκιουλ, παραπέμποντας σε μελλοντικές τροποποιήσεις που υποσχέθηκε η κυβέρνηση.
Under the bill, authorities can require Internet providers to block pages they consider to be infringing on privacy. Of course, that could give lawmakers the power to block any websites they want some or no consequences.
After strong criticism from many countries and organizations, the Turkish government now proposes to modify the law a little and ask the Companies telecommunications to inform the judge of any decision to block one by clicking heres. The decision should be issued within 48 hours or the block should be cancelled.
