It's true: Twitter makes changes to the limit of its 140 characters, as links, photos and @replies will no longer be counted.
It is important to clarify from the outset that @replies or responses will now count to the limit of 140 social characters, instead they will be counted in the original tweet with @mentions.
Twitter hopes this will help them people to get more involved, and have more meaningful dialogues. In chained replies with mentions to multiple people (@mentions), the replies got shorter and shorter until the conversations died out.
So, photos, videos, or any other will no longer count towards the 140 character limit. But according to the social network, this will only apply to media that you upload directly to Twitter, as links from Instagram, for example, will still count.
The TWitter also adds one button retweet your own messages so you can repost older content.
As for the need to @mention to someone when you start a tweet with a reference - forget it. Every tweet with a reference or not - will reach your entire "audience".
All of the above changes will roll out over the next few months as Twitter gives developers a chance to make the necessary changes to their apps before the characteristics released to the general public.
