Twitter is stepping up surveillance to remove abusive content. The company attributed its actions to the policy changes it made during 2020.

Between July 1 and December 31, 2020, Twitter reported taking action against 964.459 accounts for misconduct. Compared to the first six months of 2020, this is an increase of 142%.
At the same time, Twitter also removed similar content with hate speech and violence. On this front, the company reports that it took action against 1.126.990 accounts, an increase of 77% from the 635.415 accounts reprimanded in the first half of 2020.
Twitter also discusses extension its hate policy, in which the company will ban racist messages that discriminate against people on the basis of race, nationality or ethnicity.
Elsewhere in the report, Twitter also attributes its recent success to better technology. Since the second half of last year, the company claims that its automated surveillance tools have helped to crack down on 65 percent of abusive tweets and other behaviors before anyone needs to flag them as infringers.
Apparently, Twitter has not yet completely stopped the abusive messages, harassment and hate speech from its platform, but today's report shows that the company is making at least some progress in this area.
