Ubuntu 18.04 LTS: Canonical CEO Mark Shuttleworth today unveiled the code name for the next LTS distribution of the Ubuntu Linux operating system. Ubuntu 18.04 LTS will be released in late April of 2018.
LTS for those who do not know comes from long-term support and refers to a type of special versions of software or operating systems designed to support a longer period of time.
According to the Ubuntu version of the upcoming version, Canonical Mark Shuttleworth's CEO with a staff release of the blog, welcomed the new distribution Ubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark) congratulating all those who participated in the development and at the same time announced the release of the Ubuntu 18.04 LTS called "Bionic Beaver."
"Our mascot is a mammal known for its energy, its work in nature and its know-how. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the 18.04 LTS Bionic Beaver ", wrote Mark Shuttleworth.
Mark Shuttleworth did not reveal what the upcoming Ubuntu 18.04 LTS will bring, except of that more emphasis will be placed on system Ubuntu Snappy Core για συσκευές IoT (Internet of Things). At the same time, the development schedule was also published, which states that the release date of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS will be on April 26, 2018.
The development starts in two days from today, i.e. October 26th. From this date onwards Ubuntu 18.04 LTS “Bionic Beaver” will follow the same path as its predecessors. This means that there will be two Alpha and two Beta versions released during duration of the six-month growth cycle.
According to the release schedule, the first Alpha release is expected at 4 January 2018 and the second will be released in 1 in February, but only for opt-in flavors.
On 8 March, we will have the first beta release and the Final Beta will be released at 5 April 2018.
